Welcome to Camp Jam, a one of a kind summer camp whose motto says it all:
"No canoes, lots of rock"
'It means, it's not a regular camp, it's a camp for rock" says one of the campers.
This summer camp offers 2 five day sessions for kids ages 11-17.
After the campers are put together in their new bands, it's time to pick a band name.
"Pyramid scheme" says a camper about their band name.
"Invalid, we are called invalid" says one of the campers
Then it's off to class...Rock class.
"You come here in the morning around like 8 or 9 and you go to different stations like you'll go to rooms where they'll teach you about guitar or if you are a drummer they'll teach you about drums" says Joey Hinkebein, Camp Jam Camper.
These kids also take a song recording class, a song writing class and rock out with their band in the ensemble room
So rather then learning history or science here, you might learn the art of head banging with true rock and roll flair...
If you've got a pint sized rocker they offer "camp jam kidz" for seven to ten year olds.
This camp teaches the basics but the theme is always the same...to rock on!
At the end of the five days these "wanna be" Ozzy Osbournes put on a concert for all of the parents to show how they have transformed into full fledged rock stars!
Unfortunately this is the last week for Camp Jam but they do have an after school program called "Rock U" and there's always camp next summer. For more information head to www.campjam.com or call (800)513-0930
